Felicity tried not glancing down at her Italian-designed, Swiss-movement Cartier when she saw Tabitha poke her head into the grand dining hall and slink over to their usual table at the window over the garden veranda.
“Darling, what on earth is so urgent?” Tabitha breezed, fluffing up her hair and posing in front of her friend. “What a rush I’ve had today.”
“Must have,” Felicity answered, darting her eyes over to shiny buffet trays and cocking her head in order to look nonchalant.
“Have you been waiting long?”
Taking her cue, Felicity rolled down her satin sleeve and let the two-toned gold and silver timepiece glint off a sunbeam warming up the table.
“Nine minutes, honey, but you’ve kept me waiting far longer than that, haven’t you?”
“I was out buying this, but I couldn’t decide on the color. What do you think? Is it me?” Tabitha spun around in a taupe leopard-print chiffon Vicky Tiel. Felicity stopped her halfway through the second spin, pecked off a speck and then let her continue to turn.
“Lovely darling, lovely,” Felicity answered, still showing off her bare sleeve. “Do you like this? It’s a crocodile band.”
“Delicious,” Tabitha said, looking down at her chair as she pounced on it just right, so she wouldn’t create any awkward wrinkles in…
